Floating Corner Extension for End Terraced House, Whitchurch

Location: Whitchurch, Hampshire

We recently installed two sets of aluminium bifold doors for a floating corner extension at a family home situated in the beautiful village of Whitchurch.

The homeowners had lived in the property for a few years, and with a growing family, they wanted to extend the living space with a contemporary Orangery with a floating corner.

When they contacted Thames Valley Windows, they had already been working with a local architect, so they had the drawings and plans for their extension.

The single-storey extension had been designed with a cantilever roof to provide a floating corner feature so the homeowners knew they wanted high-quality aluminium bi-fold doors with a moveable corner post from Solarlux that would completely open up the corner of the extension.

Our designer, Joe, contacted the Whitchurch homeowners to understand their home extension project and discuss the options of the Solarlux bi-fold doors and the benefits that our roof lanterns or flat rooflights could bring to their new living space.

The brief was to provide a Solarlux bifold door system that would provide a seamless connection to the garden, which would also maximise the views and introduce more natural light into the property.

At the showroom appointment, Joe demonstrated the different bifold doors we have on display and talked through the different options, colours and glazing.

He recommended the Ecoline as these bifold doors offer the floating corner post, have a thermally broken aluminium sightline of 99mm, and offer one of the lowest u-values of 1.1 W/m²K for a bi-folding door.

The Whitchurch homeowners chose the Ecoline bifold doors finished in RAL 9016 Anthracite grey, and a contemporary lantern finished in a dual colour of anthracite grey on the external and white on the inside.

The end result is stunning.  The extension boasts clean lines, expansive bifold doors and roof lantern that amplify natural light throughout the living space and adds an abundance of sleek sophistication to the interior decor.  The stunning floating corner brings a new dimension to the living space and is the undeniable wow factor to this single-storey extension.

The narrower frames of the floor-to-ceiling bifold door system and roof lantern provide the extension with a seamless and minimalist glazing solution.

When open or closed, the doors provide fantastic views of the garden, and both the roof lantern and doors allow an abundance of natural light to flow throughout the ground floor.

The bifold doors have been designed with a weathered low rebated threshold for a minimal step onto the decking.

The Whitchurch homeowners now benefit from a thermally insulated floating corner extension that all the family can enjoy all year round.

Whilst there were a few delays with delivery and installation snags, overall, the homeowners are delighted with their bi-fold doors and raff lantern and advised of the following:

We really wanted Solarlux products as this is our forever home, so we wanted the quality.

The finished product is great, there were a few snags that needed rectifying, but now that it is complete, the doors are a fantastic addition to the house. We can now see the kids fully when they are playing in the Garden, and when we have guests over, it makes it feel as if there is so much more space.
