Georgian Bar Windows Transform Detached Frimley Home

Location: Frimley, Camberley, Surrey

A stunning detached property in one of Frimley’s most desirable cul-de-sacs has been beautifully modernised with bespoke Georgian Bar Windows and Solarlux bifolding doors, expertly installed by Thames Valley Windows. The result is a perfect balance of traditional Georgian elegance and modern performance.

Located on a leafy road of just seventeen exclusive homes, within easy reach of Watchetts Lakes, the spacious detached property has undergone a full renovation to an exceptional standard. Part of the transformation was replacing the original 25-year-old uPVC windows, which no longer delivered adequate energy efficiency or visual appeal.

The Need for Modern Georgian Windows

Although the existing windows were double-glazed, advances in glazing technology over the past two decades have made them provide minimal insulation relative to today’s standards. Draughts, condensation and rising heating costs were all concerns for the Frimley homeowners.

They approached Thames Valley Windows for a free, no-obligation quotation to replace 17 windows, including a bay window, and to upgrade their existing French doors to modern bifolding doors. Their brief was clear: enhance energy efficiency while introducing a timeless Georgian window style to elevate the home’s exterior.

Visiting the Bracknell Showroom

After an initial consultation, our Sales Manager and Designer, Luke, invited the Frimley homeowners to visit our Bracknell showroom. Seeing and operating windows and doors on display enabled them to explore a range of window styles in person, from casement and sliding sash to modern flush designs.

Being able to open and close the windows, inspect the window frame details, and compare finishes gave them confidence in their decision. They were particularly drawn to the elegant symmetry of Georgian windows, appreciating how astragal bars divide glass panes to replicate classic 18th-century architecture.

Designing Bespoke Georgian Bar Windows

From the outset, every detail of the glazing specification was carefully considered. Luke worked closely with the homeowners to create a bespoke solution that respected the property’s character while significantly improving performance.

For the front elevation, they selected a clip-on Georgian bar detailing applied to the exterior of the glass. This method replicates the appearance of individual glass panes while retaining the benefits of modern double-glazed units. A single horizontal Georgian bar was added to certain windows to enhance the property’s symmetry and traditional aesthetic.

Unlike older designs, which required multiple small panes for structural integrity, today’s Georgian bar windows achieve the same visual charm with advanced glazing technology. Astragal bars and decorative glazing bars can be incorporated without compromising insulation or security.

Halo System 10 Royale Range – Performance Meets Style

The Frimley homeowners chose the Halo System 10 Royale Range, finished in smooth white internally and externally, with a welded-join appearance for a seamless look.

These 70mm chamfered uPVC profiles offer a clean, bevelled edge that suits both contemporary and traditional Georgian homes. Their slim, even sightlines maintain perfect proportion and symmetry, enhancing the property’s elegant façade.

Beyond aesthetics, performance was a key priority.

Outstanding Energy Efficiency

The new double-glazed windows feature multi-chambered frames designed to reduce heat loss and improve thermal insulation. Thanks to advanced glass technology, these double-glazed units achieve U-values as low as 1.2 W/m²K, while triple-glazing options can reach 0.83 W/m²K.

Each sealed unit is argon-filled and fitted with thermally efficient spacer bars, significantly improving energy efficiency compared with the previous 25-year-old installations.

The result?

  • Warmer interiors in winter
  • Reduced heat gain in summer
  • Lower energy bills
  • Improved environmental performance
  • Modern Georgian windows no longer compromise on efficiency — they now deliver exceptional thermal performance alongside classic styling.

Versatile Window Styles for Every Room

The project included a variety of casement windows, carefully configured to suit each room’s function and position.

Side-hung casement windows were selected for primary openings, offering excellent ventilation and ease of operation. Top hung designs were used for fanlights, while fixed dummy sashes maintained symmetry where required.

Casement windows remain one of the most popular window styles due to their versatility, security and clean appearance. They are suitable for both period homes and modern properties, including homes in conservation areas.

Thames Valley Windows also offers:

  • Flush casement windows for a sleek contemporary finish
  • Sliding sash windows for an authentic heritage look
  • uPVC sash windows that combine traditional detailing with modern durability

This flexibility ensures every homeowner can achieve their preferred window style without sacrificing performance.

Security and Durability Built In

All Halo System 10 windows are manufactured in the UK and independently tested by BSI to meet BS7950 security standards. Multi-point locking systems come as standard, with enhanced shootbolt options available.

The multi-chambered frame construction adds structural strength, making these bar windows exceptionally robust and long-lasting.

Unlike traditional timber frames, modern uPVC Georgian bar windows are:

Completing the Renovation with Bifolding Doors

To complement the new Georgian bar windows, Solarlux Ecoline bifolding doors replaced the outdated French doors at the rear of the property.

The dual-aspect sitting room now features a beautiful box bay window to the front and expansive bi-fold doors opening directly onto the garden. This creates a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor living spaces while flooding the home with natural light.

The combination of classic Georgian styling at the front and sleek contemporary doors at the rear perfectly reflects the home’s balanced design approach.

A Seamless Finish

Attention to detail extended to the finishing touches. Each window was fitted with classic white handles to complement the smooth white frames. The overall effect is cohesive, elegant and sympathetic to the property’s architectural character.

The symmetry created by the Georgian bar detailing enhances kerb appeal, while the improved glazing specification ensures year-round comfort.

Why Choose Georgian Bar Windows?

Georgian bar windows remain among the most sought-after window styles for homeowners seeking to combine heritage charm with modern practicality.

They offer:

  • Timeless traditional Georgian aesthetics
  • The appearance of individual panes of glass
