A stunning detached property in one of Frimley’s most desirable cul-de-sacs has been beautifully modernised with bespoke Georgian Bar Windows and Solarlux bifolding doors, expertly installed by Thames Valley Windows. Located on a leafy road of just seventeen exclusive homes, within easy reach of Watchetts Lakes, the spacious detached property has undergone a full renovation to an exceptional standard. Part of the transformation was replacing the original 25-year-old uPVC windows, which no longer delivered adequate energy efficiency or visual appeal.
Although the existing windows were double-glazed, advances in glazing technology over the past two decades have made them provide minimal insulation relative to today’s standards. Draughts, condensation and rising heating costs were all concerns for the Frimley homeowners.
They approached Thames Valley Windows for a free, no-obligation quotation to replace 17 windows, including a bay window, and to upgrade their existing French doors to modern bifolding doors. Their brief was clear: enhance energy efficiency while introducing a timeless Georgian window style to elevate the home’s exterior.
After an initial consultation, our Sales Manager and Designer, Luke, invited the Frimley homeowners to visit our Bracknell showroom. Seeing and operating windows and doors on display enabled them to explore a range of window styles in person, from casement and sliding sash to modern flush designs.
Being able to open and close the windows, inspect the window frame details, and compare finishes gave them confidence in their decision. They were particularly drawn to the elegant symmetry of Georgian windows, appreciating how astragal bars divide glass panes to replicate classic 18th-century architecture.
From the outset, every detail of the glazing specification was carefully considered. Luke worked closely with the homeowners to create a bespoke solution that respected the property’s character while significantly improving performance.
For the front elevation, they selected a clip-on Georgian bar detailing applied to the exterior of the glass. This method replicates the appearance of individual glass panes while retaining the benefits of modern double-glazed units. A single horizontal Georgian bar was added to certain windows to enhance the property’s symmetry and traditional aesthetic.
Unlike older designs, which required multiple small panes for structural integrity, today’s Georgian bar windows achieve the same visual charm with advanced glazing technology. Astragal bars and decorative glazing bars can be incorporated without compromising insulation or security.
The Frimley homeowners chose the Halo System 10 Royale Range, finished in smooth white internally and externally, with a welded-join appearance for a seamless look.
These 70mm chamfered uPVC profiles offer a clean, bevelled edge that suits both contemporary and traditional Georgian homes. Their slim, even sightlines maintain perfect proportion and symmetry, enhancing the property’s elegant façade.
Beyond aesthetics, performance was a key priority.
The new double-glazed windows feature multi-chambered frames designed to reduce heat loss and improve thermal insulation. Thanks to advanced glass technology, these double-glazed units achieve U-values as low as 1.2 W/m²K, while triple-glazing options can reach 0.83 W/m²K.
Each sealed unit is argon-filled and fitted with thermally efficient spacer bars, significantly improving energy efficiency compared with the previous 25-year-old installations.
The project included a variety of casement windows, carefully configured to suit each room’s function and position.
Side-hung casement windows were selected for primary openings, offering excellent ventilation and ease of operation. Top hung designs were used for fanlights, while fixed dummy sashes maintained symmetry where required.
