Thames Valley Windows is proud to announce the successful completion of a major commercial windows refurbishment project for BSRIA’s retrofitted state-of-the-art offices in Bracknell. This large-scale window and door replacement project has transformed the organisation’s headquarters into a brighter, more energy-efficient, and sustainable working environment.
BSRIA (Building Services Research and Information Association) is a science-led independent organisation that provides practical guidance and commercial solutions for the built environment. Their 1980s office building originally featured outdated single-glazed aluminium windows and doors that no longer met modern performance expectations. The organisation wanted to improve thermal efficiency, maximise natural light, reduce energy consumption, and modernise the appearance of the building while creating healthier office spaces for staff and visitors.
Following the initial consultation, our Designer, Sean, invited the BSRIA Health and Safety Manager to visit the Thames Valley Windows showroom in Bracknell. Viewing and operating the various window systems in person enabled the client to explore a wide selection of window styles, including casement, flush-sash, and sliding-sash designs.
The hands-on showroom experience gave the BSRIA team confidence in the products’ quality, functionality, and aesthetics. They were particularly impressed with the Halo System 10 range, which combines modern thermal performance with the timeless appearance of traditional timber windows.
Sean worked closely with the BSRIA Health and Safety Manager to develop a bespoke glazing solution tailored to the building’s requirements. Every aspect of the commercial windows specification was carefully considered to ensure the final installation respected the character of the building while dramatically improving performance and sustainability.
The project involved the installation of 59 Halo System 10 uPVC casement windows completed across two retrofit phases to minimise disruption to the busy office environment.
The replacement commercial windows were manufactured in a stylish dark grey grain finish externally, with smooth white interiors to create a clean and contemporary appearance throughout the office space. The slim sightlines and welded joint appearance helped maximise the amount of natural light entering the building, creating a lighter, brighter, and more welcoming workplace.
Finished in dark grey externally, the new window systems perfectly complemented the blended architectural style of the refurbished headquarters. The modern flush casement design provided the ideal balance between contemporary aesthetics and long-term performance.
The Halo System 10 commercial windows were selected for their outstanding energy efficiency, durability, and security performance. The advanced 70mm integrated system is available in both sculptured and chamfered options and achieves impressive thermal ratings with an ‘A’ energy rating and U-values as low as 1.3.
All windows are fully compliant with UK and EU building regulations and can achieve Secured by Design accreditation for enhanced protection. At Thames Valley Windows, we understand that commercial projects are a significant investment, which is why we focus on delivering long-lasting window and door solutions that combine style, functionality, and future-proof performance.
To further enhance energy efficiency and solar protection, all commercial windows were glazed with Guardian SunGuard® SuperNeutral® SN75 solar reflective glass. This specialist glazing technology allows abundant natural light into the offices while helping reduce solar heat gain and minimising the need for excessive air conditioning.
Solar control glass is designed to reflect and absorb solar energy, helping maintain consistent indoor temperatures throughout the year. This contributes to lower energy consumption, improved comfort, and reduced operational costs for commercial buildings.
Additional reinforcements, transoms, mullions, and fixings were also incorporated into the specification to provide superior resistance against higher wind and barrier loads.
Modern commercial windows and doors play a vital role in improving workplace environments. The newly refurbished BSRIA headquarters now benefits from increased natural daylight, improved ventilation, enhanced thermal performance, and a more contemporary exterior appearance.
Casement windows remain one of the most practical and versatile window styles for commercial buildings. Available in multiple opening configurations, including side-hung, top-hung, and fixed sash options, they offer excellent flexibility for a wide variety of applications.
Today’s advanced glazing technology and innovative window systems have evolved significantly from traditional iron and timber casement windows used centuries ago. Modern uPVC commercial windows now provide exceptional levels of energy efficiency, security, weather resistance, and low maintenance performance.
This successful commercial windows project highlights Thames Valley Windows’ commitment to delivering bespoke glazing solutions that combine cutting-edge technology, outstanding design, and long-term value for commercial clients across Berkshire and the surrounding areas.
