Sash Windows for Edwardian Property, Wokingham

Location: Wokingham

We recently installed sash windows into this picture-perfect Edwardian property located in the heart of Wokingham in Berkshire.

The family home was originally built 1903 and had beautiful old single glazed timber sliding sash windows to the front of the property.

Unfortunately, they were losing heat and had become insecure, making the rooms cold and not suitable for a young family to spend time in. Although the property was not in a conservation area, achieving a traditional look was imperative to maintain the existing aesthetic of this Wokingham property.

Over the years, the current homeowners had extended and refurbished the property, and the next renovation goal was for replacement windows and doors.

The homeowners researched the internet to find the right type of sash windows. Thames Valley windows were recommended to them by a friend, so deciding that replacing the windows and doors was a crucial part of their renovation project, they contacted us online for an appointment.

After looking around our Bracknell Double Glazing Showroom with one of our designers, they both discussed the various options of sash windows that would suit their Wokingham home. They decided that double glazed sash windows from the Genesis range would be the perfect choice to bring the Wokingham property into the modern-day while paying respect to its 19th-century heritage.

The sliding sash windows from the Genesis range are a superb authentic-looking uPVC alternative flush sash window featuring sash horns so would still look as close to the original timber sash windows as possible. They are a suitable alternative for listed buildings, period properties such as Georgian and Victorian and available in an array of British standard colours to bespoke RAL colours.

The owners chose several double glazing products to best compliment the look of the house on all elevations. The combination of flush casement windows, French doors and roof lantern to the rear of the property ensures the best proportions throughout and makes the most of the natural light, thus ensuring their home is warm and secure.

Close attention to detail was required in manufacturing, to ensure each sash window features a deep bottom rail, authentic period furniture and a mechanical joint which resembles that of a traditional timber window to ensure that the characteristics of the original windows are preserved.

Thames Valley Windows installed beautiful white sash windows with a white grain wood effect finish, seamless Graf weld joints, and graphite furniture including security thumb latches with locking into the master bedroom and square bay in the living room. Each sash window is beautifully finished with traditional decorative sash horns, and astragal bars to replicate classic features.

The box sash windows are so aesthetically pleasing and have added traditional charm and character to the interior décor of the living. At the same time, the large panes of glass allow the natural sunlight to permit through the glass and naturally warm the house, to deliver maximum thermal performance throughout the home.

The beautiful high quality double glazed sash windows are from our timber alternative uPVC range. They have also been designed with a modern style spring-operated restrictor for secure ventilation and peace of mind when opening the windows.

The new vertical sliding sash windows are double glazed with A-rated glass for energy efficiency and fully factory-finished by dedicated highly skilled, and experienced manufacturing team in the UK.

Each uPVC sliding sash window is designed with two vertical sections, which slide up and down and the window opening can tilt inwards for easy cleaning access.

The Wokingham homeowners are delighted with the transformation of the new double glazed window frames and doors which make the property much cosier, quieter and secure.
