Over the coming months, VELFAC and Rationel will be merging to offer even more choice on windows and doors. The rebrand will mean that Rationel’s Aura and Auraplus will become VELFAC Ribo and Rationel’s Forma and Formaplus will become VELFAC Classic. Still the same trusted products now unified under one trusted brand.

But what does that mean for you? Can you still order Rationel products? Are they still operating in the UK as well as Europe? Who are VELFAC and why did this merge happen? We answer all of these questions in this guide.

Who are VELFAC?

VELFAC specialises in premium Scandinavian architectural glazing designed to maximise natural light and deliver industry-leading performance. VELFAC systems provide the ultimate balance of aesthetics, weather-tightness, and security. The exceptional craftmanship and flawless attention to detail behind their window and door ranges dates back to 1954 by a highly skilled carpenter in Denmark. With an exceptional heritage and a tradition dating back over six decades in Denmark, VELFAC is synonymous with its iconic Scandinavian window and door design built on the core principles of ventilation, light, and façade and let environmental responsibility shape every stage of its production and design. Rooted in over 60 years of experience in the Danish window and door market, they have gained a wealth of expertise and knowledge in the energy efficiency of double and triple glazed windows and doors.

Like the Rationel products, VELFAC windows and doors are made from high-quality softwood, specifically Northern European Pine, Pinus sylvestris. They are sourced from sustainable, northern European forests, which means that 99.7% of the wood they use is FSC-certified. It’s age when logged is 100-150years.

They continually invest in the latest manufacturing technology to produce high-performance windows and doors in their state-of-the-art factory by highly skilled technicians that meet European and UK regulations and standards (including ‘Secured by Design’).

Why did Rationel and VELFAC come together?

Both Rationel and VELFAC have operated under the DOVISTA Group. Bringing the two brands together under the VELFAC name creates a single, unified brand while combining the two companies’ experience in Scandinavian window and door design.

The change also means customers can access a broader selection of window and door styles under the one brand. The range includes both timber and timber-aluminium options, so customers can choose between the natural appearance of an all-timber window or the combination of a timber frame and durable aluminium exterior. VELFAC Ribo and VELFAC Classic are both available in wood and wood/aluminium configurations.

For existing Rationel customers, the most important thing to know is that the change does not mean starting from scratch. The familiar Rationel product ranges are being incorporated into the VELFAC portfolio under their new names, while the wider VELFAC range remains available.

What Does this change mean for Rationel Customers?

Can I still buy Rationel windows?

In the UK, Rationel products are now available through the VELFAC product range rather than as a separate Rationel-branded range. If you’re looking for an existing Rationel product, you can find its equivalent under the new VELFAC name. For example, if you previously specified Rationel Aura or Auraplus, you should now look for VELFAC Ribo. Are Rationel products still available in the UK?

Yes. The change is a UK rebrand rather than the products simply disappearing. VELFAC states that Rationel products are becoming part of its UK product range, giving customers access to the same products under the VELFAC brand.

The Rationel brand itself is being wound down in the UK by the end of 2026. This does not apply to other European markets, where Rationel will continue to operate.

What happens if I already have Rationel windows or doors?

If you already have Rationel windows or doors installed, the change of branding does not mean that your existing products need to be replaced. VELFAC products come with a  come with a comprehensive product warranty. VELFAC 200 windows are covered for 12 years, VELFAC Ribo and Classic aluminium-clad windows for 10 years, and timber windows for 5 years. All patio, sliding and entrance doors are also covered for 5 years.
