Slimline Aluminium Sliding Doors, Wargrave, Reading

Location: Reading

We recently installed slimline aluminium sliding doors into a new contemporary extension in a beautiful traditional detached property nestled in the Berkshire countryside in the village of Wargrave, Reading.

The homeowners had been living in the house for a few years, they loved the tranquil surroundings and woodlands, and with a growing family were looking to extend the property.

The brief for Simon Mack Architects for this project was to transform the rear of this white detached house completely, to create a large modern extension for open plan living to include kitchen, sitting and dining area and to better connect the inside of the home with the outside.

The addition of a large glass to glass corner window to the side of the extension would provide for an unobstructed picturesque views of the surrounding landscape. while maintaining the extension with an abundance of natural light.

The architect had worked with Thames Valley Windows in the past on many other home improvement projects and recommended us the industry-leading double glazing window company in Berkshire to the homeowners.

The Wargrave homeowners visited our Bracknell double glazing showroom with their architect plans and design ideas to create a light-filled open plan living area. They wanted a slim framed floor to ceiling glass wall sliding door system that had a more modern exterior appearance than the front of the house.

With such an expansive opening at the rear of the extension, and large south-facing garden the homeowners were looking for an aluminium system glazing solution with ultra-slim sightlines to maximise the sunlight for solar gain to help to reduce electricity bills. With a young family, it was also important the sliding doors had an effortless sliding operation and safety glass.

One of our Architectural designers discussed the glazing options with the homeowners. They decided on Sunflex high-performance thermally broken slim sliding doors with minimal outer aluminium frames in anthracite grey (RAL 7016), with large panes of uninterrupted glazing was the most suitable choice for their new extension.

The open plan living space is now filled with natural light thanks to a combination of a Sunflex SVG-99 Plus slimline aluminium sliding door. In a configuration of double track/ two-panel that is 2.1m high on a 90-degree corner with an internal moving corner post that leads out onto a balcony overlooking the Berkshire countryside.

While a large Sunflex SVG 155 three-panel set of slimline aluminium sliding patio doors on a triple track that is 2.5m high, with a moveable glass wall system gliding, either way, leads out directly to the patio area and garden.

Sunflex SVG slim aluminium sliding door system offers some of the slimmest sightlines available on the market, with less outer frames and more glass they are the perfect solution for the most magnificent panoramic views.

Both of the slimline external aluminium doors were fitted with five-point multi-point lock including anti-lift blocks and five lever euro cylinder with 6mm-6mm toughened Planitherm Low ‘e’ Glass to provide safe and secure doors.

Despite each slimline aluminium glass panel weighing more than 170kg, the sliding doors are easy to open and close.

With full planning details of the new extension build our in house surveyors completed a survey of the new extension so that our expert team had all the details they needed to design, manufacture and install the slimline aluminium sliding doors.

From the design phase to the installation, we worked closely with the architect, builder and client to ensure that we could add our expertise innovative glazing knowledge. To ensure the made to measure bespoke slimline aluminium sliding doors offer a light, bright and flexible open plan living space. Even when closed, the vast expanse of glass creates a sense of freedom with natural light-filled space and an unobstructed view of the great outdoors.

The house interior is decorated to a high standard with a lot of greys and white furniture and fittings throughout the new extension making the contemporary anthracite grey finish to these slimline aluminium sliding doors very aesthetically pleasing, as they blend perfectly with the interior decor. Our clients also chose matching floor tiles for the new extension and patio, creating a seamless transition between the glass areas of the extension and patio area. We also installed a concealed drainage system, with the modern flush track system allowing for a weatherproof level floor finish inside and out.

In addition to the two slimline aluminium door systems, the property was further enhanced by the addition of a triple glazed Pinar front door.

The Wargrave owners are delighted with their new slimline aluminium sliding doors, quoting “We chose Thames Valley Windows for the high-quality windows to keep in keeping with the modern house. Results – look amazing and work well in summer opening the whole house up. Very pleased with the end results. The architect recommended Thames valley windows as he had worked with you before. The overall experience has been brilliant when we had issues you sent people out straight away can’t fault anything.”
