In the heart of Berkshire, a detached property in the picturesque village of Warfield has undergone an impressive home improvement transformation. By upgrading to grey aluminium windows, the homeowners have successfully combined timeless character with a striking contemporary finish.
This home improvement project highlights how the right windows and doors can dramatically enhance both appearance and performance.
Having previously worked with Thames Valley Windows in 2014, the Bracknell homeowners returned with a clear vision: to modernise their property, increase natural light, and significantly improve energy efficiency. The result is a beautifully balanced home that blends traditional architecture with modern design features.
When planning their renovation, the Warfield homeowners wanted to replace outdated rosewood uPVC windows with something more durable and visually appealing. Their research and a visit to our Bracknell showroom led them to select a high-performance aluminium window system in a stunning anthracite grey finish.
Grey windows have become a leading choice in modern architectural style, offering a sleek, understated look that complements both classic and contemporary homes. In this case, the bold tone of anthracite grey created a striking contrast against the property’s red brick exterior, delivering instant kerb appeal.
Beyond aesthetics, aluminium offers clear advantages. Its inherent strength allows for slim profiles, meaning larger panes of glass and more natural light. Compared to bulky uPVC window frames, aluminium delivers a refined, minimalist appearance that transforms interior and exterior spaces alike.
The chosen Air Mod Contemporary window system features advanced engineering designed to deliver exceptional thermal performance. Thanks to innovative manufacturing processes, each aluminium frame includes a polyamide thermal break, which acts as a barrier between internal warmth and external cold.
This technology significantly helps to reduce heat transfer, improving the home’s overall thermal efficiency and lowering energy consumption. With double-glazed units filled with argon gas, warm-edge spacer bars, and low-emissivity coatings, the windows are designed to minimise heat loss while maintaining comfortable indoor temperatures year-round.
The result is a range of high-performance windows that not only look impressive but also contribute to long-term energy savings. Achieving low U-values, these windows meet and exceed modern building standards for energy efficiency.
For this project, the Warfield homeowners selected internally glazed aluminium casement windows, combining functionality with a clean, contemporary design. These double-glazed units provide excellent insulation, helping to maintain a quieter and more comfortable living environment.
The improved glazing specification reduces external noise while enhancing thermal insulation. This creates a noticeable difference in day-to-day living, particularly during colder months when maintaining warmth is essential.
In addition, trickle ventilation was carefully integrated into the design to meet current building regulations. This ensures a steady flow of fresh air throughout the home without compromising energy performance.
One of the standout features of these grey aluminium windows is their durable finish. Each aluminium frame is treated using high-quality powder coating, resulting in a smooth, long-lasting surface that resists fading, peeling, and corrosion.
Anthracite grey remains one of the most sought-after finishes due to its versatility and timeless appeal. Its deep, rich tone adds a sense of sophistication while complementing a wide range of property styles.
Unlike older materials, aluminium requires minimal maintenance, making it an ideal choice for homeowners seeking both performance and practicality. The robust construction ensures that the windows will continue to perform and look exceptional for many years.
A key goal of the renovation was to increase natural light within the property. By switching to aluminium, the Warfield homeowners benefited from significantly slimmer window frames, allowing for larger glazed areas.
The result is brighter, more open living spaces that feel modern and inviting. These windows offer a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor environments, enhancing the overall living experience.
In fact, the new installation increased the glazed area substantially compared to the original units. This transformation demonstrates how thoughtful design and material choice can redefine a home’s atmosphere.
Energy efficiency was a major consideration throughout the project. The new Air Mod contemporary aluminium windows play a crucial role in maintaining consistent indoor temperatures while helping to reduce energy bills.
By minimising heat loss, the double-glazed windows ensure that less energy is required to heat the home during colder months. At the same time, their advanced glazing helps regulate internal temperatures during warmer periods.
This balance of insulation and performance contributes to a more sustainable home. With improved thermal efficiency, the property is better equipped to meet modern environmental expectations while providing year-round comfort.
The renovation extended beyond windows to include complementary upgrades to the property’s patio doors. Matching aluminium windows and doors were installed throughout, creating a cohesive and harmonious design.
At the rear of the property, large Edgeglide sliding doors open up the lounge and dining room living spaces to the garden, allowing natural light to flood in. This design choice enhances both functionality and visual appeal, making the home feel more spacious and connected to its surroundings.
Together, the coordinated system of double-glazed windows and doors delivers a unified look that elevates the entire property.
The transformation of this Warfield home demonstrates the powerful impact of upgrading to grey aluminium windows. By combining cutting-edge technology with refined design, the Warfield homeowners have achieved a property that is both stylish and highly efficient.

The switch from outdated rosewood upvc to modern aluminium has not only improved the home’s appearance but also enhanced its performance in terms of insulation, durability, and security.
Our existing windows were UPVC in rosewood, installed 20+ years ago, not supplied by TV Windows. The condition of the frames had deteriorated over recent years, with the foil UPVC frame veneer failing. We also felt that the rosewood looked dated in 2025, and the traditional thick UPVC frames restricted the light within the house.
Our experience with foil-coated UPVC led us to consider alternative frame materials in a contemporary style that would bring more light into the house and give the property a more modern look and feel. A visit to your showroom opened our eyes to alternative frame materials. We were immediately taken with the aluminium window range.
Our subsequent research into the pros and cons of this frame material, along with discussions with the TV Window design representative, convinced us to choose aluminium. The manufacturers for the windows and patio doors were both longstanding, trustworthy and established suppliers to TV.
The impact on our home has been profound and exceeded our expectations. The aluminium windows chosen have sleek frames, which have increased the glazed area by 28% over the old UPVC. The house benefits from much more daylight as a consequence. Insulation of outside noise is on a whole new level. These windows do much more than fill the aperture; they are beautifully engineered and look amazing.
Everyone who has seen them says they have a wow factor and have transformed the property. Our research into aluminium included its thermal properties. We have had many nights of sub-zero temperatures since installation, and we are more than happy with the favourable thermal performance and energy consumption compared to the windows they replaced.
We first used TV Windows in 2014 on a rental property and again for entrance doors in 2017. We chose them because they are a local company with an excellent, unrivalled reputation. Being a long-established company, they have great people with a wealth of knowledge and experience in their industry.
The products they offer, quality and attention to detail have always been first class. As a consequence, five of our friends and neighbours have become happy customers, and they have all been completely satisfied with the results. When we placed our window order, we did not have to worry about the integrity or competence of the company we had chosen.
Please see our Trustpilot review below for more details.
We can only describe the experience from initial contact through to completion as fantastic. Every TV Window representative has done their job properly and been great ambassadors for the company.
