Black Front Door, Timber, Maidenhead

Location: Maidenhead

A classic black front door installation for Thames Valley Windows. We recently designed and installed a bespoke wooden front door as part of a renovation project at a detached property in Maidenhead.

This house is located in a highly sought after area of Berkshire and has undergone a complete renovation and remodelling. Which included a modern glass extension, uPVC flush casement windows, soffits and facias, and wooden black front door most products feature clean lines within a modern design to create a contemporary feel.

We were approached by the homeowners to supply a bespoke glazing solution for their family home in Maidenhead to give cohesion and modern decor throughout the house.

Initial meetings were held at our Bracknell showroom with the customer to view plans and discuss requirements and criteria for the home improvement project. Our highly experienced architectural designer Michael provided a personal service from concept to completion, helping with advice to select quality glazing products to enhance and add value to the property.

Each product was carefully selected for design specification, quality, performance, budget, and with the property located next to the river environmental considerations.

The Maidenhead homeowners wanted the front door to have a contemporary feel but fit in with the house. After viewing the range of exterior doors in the showroom, they narrowed their choice down to a replacement timber door or composite front door. After careful consideration, they selected an Edwardian inspired timber front door – Dixie from Thames Valley Timber range in Engineered European Redwood.

The external door is finished in dual colours with a matte black on the outside, and white finish on the inside. In keeping with the era of the door,  a contrasting white frame surrounds the black front door. The two toughened double glazed sections in a Satinato sandblasted design with vertical border in the upper half of the door further enhances the look and admits a wealth of natural light into the hallway in the property.

The clients also chose beautifully crafted chrome door furniture, to complement the stylish matte black colour including letterbox, and split spindle lock with thumb turn and high-security locking system.

The black door brings out the darker shades of the red brick and softens the white windows; the transformation gives the traditional property a more elegant contemporary feel.

The homeowners advised: We had the front door replaced in PVC by a local firm. It was very disappointing and they agreed to a full refund. Michael suggested your new wood range with the mullion modified to minimise its profile. We are delighted with everything.

Our range of bespoke wooden doors are made with warp-resistant timber, superior in quality, traditional craftsmanship and factory finished engineered design.

For centuries, a black front door was associated with stately homes of the aristocracy society. Over the last couple of years, black front doors have become a popular choice with homeowners, with many choosing black composite doors to enhance the entrance of their home and welcome friends and family.

The most famous black front door in the UK is 10 Downing Street, the residence to the British prime minister. The iconic and timeless black bricks and the black front door is a renowned spot for press briefings.  Liberal Prime Minister Herbert Henry Asquith made history in 1908 when he requested to paint No. 10’s front door a different colour to dark green. It returned to the original black colour in 1916 when his party went out of power.

Production and installation were scheduled and coordinated with the builders, and other tradespeople to ensure a smooth installation and that the project ran to schedule.

This Maidenhead residence entrance benefits from traditional aesthetics and modern-day technology, security and energy efficiency.

This house is a perfect ‘how-to’ for merging both traditional and contemporary style with a breath-taking glass extension with magnificent frameless sliding doors commanding beautiful riverside views with a wealth of natural light that cascades into the open plan living area.
