Location: Sandhurst, Berkshire
Located in the tranquil surroundings of Sandhurst, this impressive contemporary Solarlux SDL Acubis glass room extension, designed by PS Architectural, redefines the seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces with a stunning outdoor kitchen/dining area where the homeowners can enjoy al fresco dining and entertaining with family and friends.
The Sandhurst homeowners, existing customers of Thames Valley Windows, contacted us for a quote for a glass garden room. Our designer, Paul, had previously worked with the homeowners. With his extensive glazing experience in delivering high-end contemporary glazing solutions and his passion for creative design, he was able to produce a set of working plans, including the elevations and close-up details of a luxurious Solarlux SDL Acubis Glass Room Extension.
With a focus on natural light, openness, and precision glazing, the project is centred around a non-insulated profile system and an innovative flat glass roof, each working in harmony to create a seamless, contemporary outdoor/indoor living space.
At the heart of the Solarlux SDL Acubis Glass Room Extension is the visually impressive, non-insulated SL 25 xxl all-glass slide-and-turn door system, manufactured with laminated safety glass, which features a minimalist design that creates a stunning effect.
When the glass panels are fully closed, a 3mm vent is present for permanent ventilation and to protect against wind and rain. When open, they conveniently stack into the corner to open up the glass extension, eliminating the distinction between inside and outside.
The sliding panels can be moved to the left or right to open and can swing inwards or outwards. They feature a top-running mechanism with sealed bearings and fibreglass-reinforced polyamide bearing surfaces, ensuring quiet operation.
Various locking options are available for the swing panels, along with a magnetic door stay and slim-line panel catches.
The slim profiles of the glass roof aluminium frames not only improve natural illumination but also frame views of the sky.
The glass door panels are secured in line within aluminium profiles at both the top and bottom. The panels are suspended from the top horizontal profiles and guided along the bottom horizontal profiles using the running mechanisms. Designed with a safeguard in the second panel to stop incorrect operation.
You can choose from different thicknesses of glass—8 mm, 10 mm, or 12 mm—made from heat-soaked, toughened safety glass. All edges of the glass panels are polished for a smooth finish.
The expansive SL 25 xxl all-glass slide-and-turn door system is central to this detached property’s transformation, precisely aligning with the project’s focus on transparency, natural light, and indoor-outdoor integration.
The 12 sliding panels, measuring 2,550 mm in height and 2,000 mm in width, have a flush floor track and feature a leading door at each end. Whether open or closed, the offer uninterupted views whilst blurring the lines between the interior and the surrounding landscape.
The premium sustainable aluminium has been finished in powder-coated DB703 Grey metallic.
The non-insulated glass extension is attached to the back of the property using steel-reinforced rafters and support posts.
Contributing to contemporary aesthetics, the powder-coated aluminium flat glass roof is designed with a pitch of 2°. The pillars and profiles join together to form the extension, providing a stunning blend of light and space.
The roof pitch is barely visible to the naked eye, as it is hidden behind aluminium fascia, but it ensures that rainwater drains off the canopy.
The motorised internal and external awning provides solar protection. Internal LED spotlights have been installed in the roof beams to illuminate the extension at night.
Outdoor kitchens have been one of the must-have garden trends in recent years, and a bespoke Solarlux SDL Acubis are especially suited for the outdoor kitchen/ dining lifestyle experience.
This is an exceptional Solarlux SDL Acubis glass room extension, designed and finished to the highest specification with outstanding attention to detail, providing a clean, modern contrast to the detached property.
The floor-to-ceiling glazing seamlessly blends into the roof, offering uninterrupted sightlines and enhancing the sense of height and space within the extension.
The aluminium framing, with its inherent strength and minimal sightlines, was essential for achieving the desired transparency and structural integrity.
Solarlux glazing products have long been renowned for their perfect combination of innovation, precision engineering, functionality, and aesthetics. This attention to detail is key to ensuring their relevance in today’s ever-evolving glazing industry market.
