Victorian Home Renovation with Traditional Timber Sliding Sash Windows – Weights and Cords, Windlesham

Location: Windlesham

We recently completed a large installation of over 50 traditional timber sliding sash windows, casement windows and French doors to complete this Victorian home renovation.

After purchasing this stunning detached Victorian property, the Windlesham homeowners set about a scheme of renovations and upgrades to bring the home up to the modern 21st century.

The Victorian property had lots of unique period features and characteristics. While the owners were keen to replace their existing timber windows with replacement energy-efficient windows, they were particularly committed to ensuring that the property’s original period character and charm were maintained throughout.

The property is located on the main road between the villages of Windlesham and Sunningdale, so part of the brief was for soundproof windows to the front elevation.

The existing timber windows were single glazed, and the previous owners had installed secondary glazing to help reduce the traffic noise.

After many hours researching for triple glazed windows and doors that offer modern acoustic and insulation performance, low maintenance, but also sympathetic to the age and character of their property, they were keen to learn more about the Evolution timber alternative.

The Windlesham homeowners contacted Thames Valley Windows Looking for a quote to replace all the existing timber windows and French doors with Timber Alternative.

With many years in the glazing industry, our designer Rob has a passion for traditional British aesthetics and is one of our specialists in designing timber windows and doors in modern and period properties.
Rob contacted the Windlesham homeowners and arranged an appointment at our Bracknell showroom to view our timber range and alternative windows and doors.

Following professional advice from Rob and careful considerations of the different options, the homeowners chose a combination of traditional timber sliding sash windows with weights and cords and casement windows made from engineered European redwood.

All the timber windows and French doors are factory finished with a five-stage water-based microporous paint process in a crisp pure white (RAL9010) on the interior and exterior in keeping with the period property.

The double glazed windows at the front of the property are laminated to offer superb acoustic insulation and security protection.

Rob designed all the wooden windows with the most incredible attention to achieve balance, symmetry and harmony for consistent sightlines.

Timber Georgian bars were specified on all timber products for the classic six-panel window that reflected the original aesthetic.

Polished chrome furniture was selected throughout with a traditional ball claw locking catch for the box sash windows.

The double-glazed glass units in the casement windows and French doors are toughened and have a Low E coating, argon gas and warm-edge spacer bars offering superb thermal performance.

The timber windows and doors did not require trickle vents to be fitted as the existing windows did not offer this type of ventilation.

Our wooden sliding sash windows can be designed with a modern spiral balance or traditional weight and pulley. To learn more about the different options, you can watch our video guide on Traditional Sash Windows.

We offer a range of stains and RAL colour options from Teknos, Farrow & Ball and Dulux Heritage. With modern and traditional ironmongery, including espagnolette locking

The end result of the Windleham property is stunning. No other material could have produced such exquisite aesthetics as timber for Windlesham’s Victorian home renovation project.

We are thrilled to hear that the Windlesham homeowners are happy with the design and installation of their new double glazed timber windows and doors and advised of the following:

Our decision to go with TVW was down to a recommendation from our property surveyor, who noted that we wanted to replace the existing windows with something in keeping with the period of the house.

The window design certainly achieved this, and after a visit to the showroom, we were sold on the quality of the product.

We are delighted with the finished look and feel that the new windows have given our home.

As an architecturally led double glazing company, we can provide bespoke timber window and door solutions to architects, developers, builders and homeowners in Berkshire, Hampshire, Oxfordshire and Surrey.
