The detached family home, built in 2016 by Bewley Homes, is in a sought-after development close to Wokingham town. The homeowners were keen to improve and extend their family home.

The Wokingham homeowners’ desire for lots of natural light facilitated the design of a rear extension with a minimalist glass aesthetic. This created a bright and light contemporary, open-plan kitchen, living, and dining space suitable for modern-day living. The extension connects to the stunning garden and is in total contrast to the existing property.

Our architectural designer, Paul, had drawn up plans and submitted the planning application to Wokingham Borough Council when he introduced Thames Valley Windows to the homeowners.

The Wokingham homeowners and Paul had an evident vision of what they wanted, which is always a massive help on any project. Paul arranged a meeting at the Bracknell showroom to discuss the minimalist sliding door options on display. They were looking for a high-quality sliding door system with clean lines and large glazed sections that offered outstanding thermal performance.

The homeowners quickly decided on the double glazed EdgeGLIDE sliding door as the best option. After some review, the client felt that external sliding doors best fit their desire for a contemporary minimalistic look that allowed plenty of natural light to fill the living space. The costs were within the project’s overall budget.

The client wanted to create the effect of an open corner, which Paul achieved with two sliding aluminium doors on either side of the structural corner post.

They decided on powder-coated RAL7016 anthracite grey frames on the exterior and interior.

They have excellent air, water, and wind resistance and meet requirements for thermal and water tightness. They are thoroughly tested to withstand the harshest weather conditions. The hard-wearing powder coating is resistant to corrosion and colour fade.
