Frameless Sliding Patio Doors for Cedar Cladded Single Storey Rear Extension, Thatcham

Location: Thatcham

These Cero II frameless sliding patio doors with a moveable corner add the wow factor to this stunning modern cladded single-storey rear extension for a detached property in Thatcham.

The detached family home was built approximately 12 years ago by Bloor Homes and situated in a sought-after cul de sac backing directly onto a lake with Greenham Common beyond.

The homeowners had already worked with their architect, who talked them through the planning permission, building regulations, and Party Wall Act process to prepare the calculations and technical drawings to be submitted to the local authority for building control approval.

After seeing one of our social media adverts on Facebook, The Thatcham homeowners contacted Thames Valley Windows to provide a sustainable sliding door system for their single-storey rear extension.

The homeowners desired a contemporary, sociable, open-plan kitchen and dining room that could be enjoyed by family and guests and a garden room that seamlessly connected with the garden and offered panoramic views over the lake to the surrounding woodlands.

Our designer, Luke, contacted the Thatcham homeowners to discuss their home renovation project and arrange an appointment at our Bracknell showroom so they could look at their architectural plans together and view our full range of slim sliding and bifolding doors.

At the meeting, Luke discussed the options for frameless sliding patio doors; the Vision20 or Cero II were the two frameless glass sliding doors he recommended.

The homeowners required large sliding doors with a moveable corner that needed a triple track to enter a dual channel; the only option was the Solarlux Cero II.

Luke worked closely with the customers and Home Architecture to provide an innovative, sustainable glazing system that met their project requirements and lifestyle.

Part of their brief was all their new windows and doors needed to achieve 1.2w/m2k for building regulations.

After much discussion, the homeowners opted for a mixture of minimally framed Solarlux Ecoline bi-fold doors and windows and award-winning Cero II sliding doors with a moveable corner to maximise natural light and connect the indoor and outdoor spaces.

The Cero embodies timeless elegance with frameless glass doors. Designed to your specifications with passionate attention to detail and manufactured in Germany in a state-of-the-art facility with Innovative technology for assured strength and performance quality and made to last… that’s the Solarlux difference.

The triple-glazed Cero III offers u-values as low as 0.8w/m²k and 1.2w/m²k for the Cero II double-glazed.

The ultra-slim aluminium profile of Cero II doors is 34mm, giving a 98% glazed area. The frame’s outer edges are to be concealed into the floor, wall and ceiling, offering an unrivalled minimal frame.

Whilst the Ecoline bi-fold doors and windows have a slim sightline of just 99mm, both systems allow virtually uninterrupted when the doors are closed.

The double-glazed units are toughened with a low e-glass coating and a black warm-edge spacer bar.

The homeowners chose the luxurious powder-coated metallic grey colour (DB703) inside and outside for all the thermally broken aluminium frames.

Soon after the Thatcham homeowners signed the contract, our surveyor contacted them to arrange a date to visit and discuss technical details and measure the apertures, ensuring that the windows and doors for the single-storey rear extension would be installed to the highest specification.

Our purchasing and installation teams worked according to the builder’s schedule. All the glazing for the extension was scheduled to be installed in phases, as the Cero II doors were on longer lead times.
