Internorm Windows and Doors, New Build Home, Windsor

Location: Windsor

We recently installed Internorm windows and doors into this modern new build in Windsor overlooking the River Thames.

The homeowners had been let down by another window company, so Thames Valley Windows was delighted to be appointed by a local builder to design, supply a complete glazing solution for this brand new Grand Design style home. This meant that we had a much tighter turnaround than we would normally expect on a job of this magnitude, but we worked around the clock to get up to speed!

This beautiful new build home is designed with vast expanses of glazing from Internorm and Solarlux who are both a preferred choice for new builds and renovation projects as they have an outstanding reputation for high quality and U-values.

Majority of glazing products was a mixture of HF410 & KF410 Internorm uPVC/Timber & aluminium windows and HS330 timber/aluminium sliding doors. Solarlux SL160 sliding doors have also been utilised, at the rear of the house where they required triple track option to ensure flush floor levels to open onto the terrace so that inside and out is seamlessly joined. The two glazing systems match well so no obviously noticeable aesthetic difference from the outside.

The glazing installation throughout this new build is one of the significant features of this property. Every room has been designed with premium architectural glazing features to ensure all rooms benefits from natural light and stunning views of the river and landscape.

As the Windsor property is in a relatively exposed position on the banks of the River Thames and as suggested by the architect, the homeowners decided to go for Internorm’s standard triple glazing for all windows and doors. Combining exceptional engineering, and glazing for best acoustic performance and superior thermal insulation, the U value of these products is less than 0.7kW/m2 which is Passive House standard and will provide optimal protection against the harsh elements during the colder winter months.

To complement the clean lines of the facade, Internorm windows and door design, shape the style and character considerably of this modern and contemporary new build.

Architecture is varied, and our senior designer manager Paul Mills worked closely with the homeowners and their architect and builder to ensure all Internorm windows and doors were designed, supplied and installed within the builder’s schedule.

Following visits to the Thames Valley Windows  Bracknell Showroom and discussions regarding the best glazing solution to fit the specification of the new build. Our customer was able to view the Solarlux and Internorm windows and doors on display in our Bracknell showroom to help choose from the different Internorm design styles. To visualise the design style, numerous 3D architectural visualisations were provided showing the various options. This was invaluable in helping the homeowners envisage, discuss and choose the final design.

One of our surveyors carried out many site visits prior to the install to discuss technical details and measure the apertures ensuring everything would fit perfectly.

Internorm’s full-height timber/aluminium lift and slide doors provide a modern glazed wall which appears almost frameless and have been utilised on the first floor in the split level open plan living areas, alongside various fixed, and tilt and turn windows throughout the home.

These lift and slide doors are also triple glazed, with 54mm clear glazing. Each door pane can carry a maximum weight of up to 400kg – in this case the glass weighed 247kg per panel and required specialist lifting equipment to manoeuvre them into place. Despite their weight, the doors glide effortlessly due to the quality rollers and the lift/slide operation. The doors can be locked at any point along the track, ideal for when children or pets are running in and out.

The lift and slide doors and window frames were designed with a dual finish, deep brown walnut premium timber option on the inside and a special RAL matt colour, M8025 pale brown on the exterior. The homeowners chose this stunning walnut finish on the inside to match the feel of the reception areas. However, rather than use painted wood in the downstairs basement area and bedrooms, we cleverly utilised the timber look PVC option on the inside finish in these areas, which saved the homeowners a significant amount of money. However, from the outside, there is no difference in the look of the product.

Throughout the rest of the property, the range of the window was finished on the inside in a clean Edelweiss white grain, offering a contemporary and aesthetically pleasing look the same special RAL matt colour on the outside. This pale brown finish for the exterior has blended well with the façade of their home.

With a variation of casement sizes, the Internorm HF410 studio windows add to the sense of space and light throughout. Some of the windows in the Windsor property are the uPVC/aluminium tilt and turn design, creating better functionality for the space in which they are used. Internorm high-performance HF410 timber aluminium windows and doors have been installed into the open plan kitchen space. The sliding doors at the rear of this new build create a wow factor and offer spectacular views of the river.

This amazing new build home has been designed and finished to the highest specification and is packed full of our bespoke doors, and windows in various shape, colour and material.

Thames Valley Windows team worked closely with the builder to ensure time scales were accomplished, and the window and door installations matched the exquisite quality of the rest of the build.

Glazing and energy efficiency were a priority from the start of this build, Our customers have now been living with Internorm windows and doors for a while and enjoying all the benefits that Internorm and Solarlux glazing systems bring.

Thames Valley Windows is proud to say that we are an Internorm Distribution Partner, guaranteeing perfect product quality and the highest levels of service, before, during and after installation.
