Orangery Kitchen Extension, Cero Sliding Doors, Reading

Location: Reading

We recently designed and installed a stunning Orangery kitchen extension into a charming property situated in a quiet and much sought-after road on the edge of the village of Winnersh, overlooking Berkshire open countryside.

Our Reading homeowners were looking to expand the living space in their home. After searching for single-storey extension inspiration and ideas on the internet, our Reading homeowners contacted Thames Valley Windows to design and install a bespoke Orangery kitchen extension for their home improvement project.

Our architectural designer, Michael, contacted the Reading homeowners to arrange a design consultation at our Bracknell showroom. He worked closely with the clients and their builder to provide an innovative glazing system that met both their project requirements and personal lifestyle.

Part of the brief was to design a minimalistic and contemporary open plan kitchen/diner living space with large glass doors connecting the indoor and outdoor space with either bi-folding or sliding doors. Both of these modern aluminium door systems have been included in the final design with the use of Solarlux Ecoline Bi fold doors, and award-winning Cero II sliding doors.

After much discussion, they also opted for a mixture of minimally framed thermally broken aluminium windows, and roof lantern to maximise natural light and reduce the need for artificial lighting during the day, that would also help to lower the energy bills.

As part of Michael’s architectural design service, he provided the Reading homeowners with full-colour 3D visuals of the proposed single-storey extension with the window and door designs which allowed them to visualise the finished Orangery kitchen extension and to perceive any revisions or design enhancements before construction.

Soon after the Reading homeowners signed the contract, we arranged a convenient date for our surveyor to visit the Reading property to discuss technical details and measure the apertures ensuring that the Orangery kitchen extension would be installed to the highest specification.

The stunning orangery kitchen extension has completely transformed the internal layout and external aesthetics of this detached property. This has included a state of the art glazing solution of minimalist floor to ceiling glass doors creating a seamless transition to the outside decking area.

Whilst refreshingly contemporary, the open plan living space is filled with natural light, which adds a beautiful ambience to the living space, providing the perfect room, to relax, entertain family and friends or work from home.

The overall design of the orangery extension remains sympathetic to the detached building and surrounding area and is compliant with all aspects of the building regulations.

The impressive 6.5 m moving glass wall with minimal 34mm sightline offers 98% glazing making this one of the most invisible sliding door systems on the market.

Despite each aluminium glass panel being oversized weighing more than 100kg, the sliding doors are easy to open and close.

The use of high-quality bespoke aluminium windows and doors with powder-coated finishes were an essential factor of the home improvement project.

The Atlas roof lantern is a beautiful architectural feature that adds a great perspective to the Orangery kitchen extension. It is finished in dual colours RAL7016 anthracite grey on outside and satin white on the inside. The roof glazing provides high levels of insulation due to their quality design and argon gas-filled Pilkington glazing units.

The active neutral glazing has been enhanced, with solar heat reflective, glare reduction and a high-performance self-cleaning coating for minimal maintenance, and with a 1.0 U-Value for extra thermal efficiency.

The roof lantern has been designed with two electronic motorised roof vents to provide fresh air without the having to open the patio doors.

The Reading home improvement project has been a resounding success, and our clients are delighted with their Orangery kitchen extension and have advised that the new living space has become the heart of the home.

Our architectural designer Michael has remodelled what was a traditional family home into a luxurious modern property that has transformed the overall functionality of the house.

The home extension interior decor has been finished to the highest specification with a modern kitchen design, and neutral colour palette to compliment the anthracite grey door frames.

At Thames Valley Windows, we can design and install Orangeries and provide a service which can include required approval for planning permission or building regulations. With our wealth of architectural glazing experience and over 36 years in the glazing industry.  We have the knowledge, vision and creative flair for designing garden rooms, conservatories and orangeries for both traditional and contemporary properties.

Gone are the days when a home extension was only designed with solid walls, with the advancements in glass technology, glass has become must-have building material for a room extension or kitchen Orangery.

If you’d like to see and feel the high-quality minimal framed sliding glass doors for yourself, we have a fully operational Solarlux Cero III sliding door in our Bracknell showroom, that is open six days a week by appointment.
