Advantages of installing a Contemporary Glazed Extension in Hampshire

An Introduction to Contemporary Glazed Extensions

A contemporary glazed extension  is an excellent addition to any Hampshire, Surrey and Berkshire home. These glazed extensions can be designed with structural glass to create a frameless glass box. Designed in various shapes and sizes and provide homeowners the opportunity to make the most of their outdoor spaces; to enjoy the indoor/outdoor lifestyle.

A Wintergarden is a glazed “extension” to a property which can serve the dual function of being both an additional internal living space and an attractive way to enjoy your garden all year round. The fantastic glazed extensions are the perfect choice for those with green fingers, since, as you might imagine from their name, a Wintergarden can be the ideal place to cultivate plants that cannot thrive in the unpredictable British climate.

A Wintergarden provides an effective thermal barrier to warm the air between a building’s interior and exterior skin. This, in turn, helps to make your home more energy efficient, reducing energy usage during the cold months of the year and helping to lower your energy bills.

With these benefits in mind, it is understandable that many clients are approaching us about possibly extending their home in Hampshire with such a contemporary glazed extension. If you are interested in how such an extension may improve your home, please read on and view our favourite Wintergarden projects.

New Wintergarden Extension for a Detached Home in Reading

Our clients in Reading were looking for a way to update their stunning detached property. Having discussed the options with our inhouse design team, it was decided that extending the property with a Solarlux Wintergarden was the preferred option. Our contemporary architectural glazing systems allow maximum space and light without compromising energy efficiency or security.

Our glazing design team was tasked with creating a new light and open-plan family living space that would seamlessly transition the home into the garden. Opening out the side of the kitchen, the modern glass extension would become a dining and food preparation area that could be equally used for entertaining friends and relaxing as a family – no matter the weather.

The thermally-insulated glass room built by Solarlux and installed by Thames Valley Windows features reinforced thermally-broken rafters with Pilkington Activ glass panels to give ongoing protection from solar gain while being easy to clean, thanks to the clever self-cleaning finish. The installation also features a motorised roof skylight to allow for ventilation when required.

Our clients in Reading, Berkshire, were overjoyed with the impact of their renovation project and are enjoying the natural light that bathes their new luxurious space.

Stunning Contemporary Glazed Extension in Crowthorne

Our clients in Crowthorne, Berkshire, asked our designers to plan a beautiful glazed rear extension to a terraced 1980s house. The contemporary glass extension helped turn the property into a gorgeous modern home filled with light and space. As you will see from the photos, the results were simply stunning.

Our clients wanted to increase the overall footprint of their home, creating an open plan living space that would provide effortless access to their outdoor patio and entertainment area. They chose the grey powder coated, aluminium Solarlux Wintergarden glass extension because it helps bring a minimalist, modern feel to their property whilst blending interiors seamlessly with the garden.

The thermally efficient glass box extension combined tilt and turn windows, an Akzent Plus Glass Roof, and bi-folding Solarlux doors that glide open to reveal the patio ultimately with its exotic plants. Thanks to the extensive panels of glazing, this new addition to the property makes for a strong design statement, enhancing their home exponentially.

A Glass Room In Wokingham

Our clients in Finchampstead, Wokingham, were eager to open their kitchen further to enjoy their outdoor spaces, even during the colder winter months. Using bi-fold Solarlux SL 60e door system and the Akzent Plus roof system, our designers helped create a stunning glass conservatory-style room to meet their needs. Cosy and warm, the resulting space gave our clients and their family the best of both worlds – outstanding value and excellent quality.

The self-cleaning finish makes the glass effortless to maintain, while the double glazing to the roof minimises noise from rainfall. Our clients were delighted with the final results.

A Revolutionary Bungalow Transformation

This was one of the most stunning transformational projects we have been involved with. Our clients in Hampshire were able to completely transform a rather bland 1960s bungalow into a spectacular new-build-like contemporary home. They replaced the existing wooden “Victorian style” conservatory to the rear with a Solarlux Wintergarden. Our team installed large Solarlux SL 60e fixed frames to the front to allow for new, uninterrupted views of the garden. The SL 60e Bi-Fold Doors positioned to each side make the room an open plan glazed canopy on warmer Summer days.

The newly installed Solarlux Wintergarden benefits from solar-neutral active glazing on the roof and an internal motorised awning. Lighting extension rafter covers were used to install spotlights for a neat, concealed effect.

Entirely sympathetic to the property’s existing design, the project produced terrific results genuinely inspiring and delighting our clients.

A contemporary glass extension is popular with period properties, as the glass walls. They can often be designed as single-storey extensions and be built without planning permission, as the property may benefit from permitted development rights. As with any home extension, it is recommended to check with architects and party wall surveyors if the side extension is between two properties on the party wall act and building regulations.
