Aluminium Bifold Doors, for a New Build, Cookham Dean

Location: Cookham Dean

We recently installed aluminium bifold doors into this fresh, modern and high-spec new build with a minimalist design to maximise space and light in the beautiful village of Cookham Dean, Berkshire.

This detached property really does have a, ‘see it to believe it’ quality it is set in a beautiful hillside location with sweeping views of the countryside and beyond the new double glazing would take advantage of this allowing for uninterrupted views.

The front of the house is simply inspiring, with vast expanses of glass the slim external frames are finished in dark grey and anthracite grey to complement the dark grey slate roof, and white render walls achieving a vision of contemporary elegance.

Designing and building a dream home has been a must-have trend for many years with more people wanting to live their dream lifestyle in the perfect home!

Thames valley windows were contacted by our client’s architect Stonehouse Consultants, to design, supply, and install a complete glazing solution for this prestige new build property.

This new build has a minimalist aesthetic, and the architect was keen to complement the design by including a selection of large windows and glass doors throughout to ensure the property had plenty of natural light throughout. With a young family, the clients were keen to connect their home to the garden.

We arranged a meeting at the Bracknell showroom with the architect and client to discuss product options as they were considering either timber, aluminium or uPVC for the windows.

We quickly decided on aluminium Bi-fold doors by Solarlux as the best option. After some review, the client felt that the uPVC flush casement windows from Halo best fitted their desire for a contemporary look and the overall budget of the project.

The client was keen on a contemporary look for the front door, so we suggested an Internorm aluminium door.

Between these three ranges, we’ve been able to tick all the boxes to create an energy-efficient home using the highest quality products while offering the best thermal efficiency and value for our clients.

After a very productive meeting, it meant that we could put pencil to paper quickly and start to turn our client’s ideas and building requirements into reality.

Part of the brief was contemporary features to the windows and doors. We choose a bold dark grey colour to contrast well with the external cream render. We avoided timber joints in the windows in exchange for welded to keep a more modern look and match an aluminium appearance of sleek and minimal sightlines.

We used a special grey on white at the time, but this option has since been incorporated into standard ranges due to increased popularity.

Once we had agreed on the window and door profile and colour options. We began to look over some of the key design features of the property which included the full-length window on the stairs, the gallery windows on the landing and the position of the front door in the porch including the porch roof detail itself.

As part of our architectural design service, we created full-colour 3D visuals of the proposed window and door designs which allowed the clients to visualise the finished design.

To provide both the look of French Doors to the master bedroom Juliette balcony and normal ventilation, we recommended a pair of tilt & turn windows.

We made some recommendations to some of the features and the proportions of some of the windows. These ideas were included in the final design and made up the finished aesthetics of the new build. We have included the visuals in the image gallery above.

Our 3D architectural design package is an excellent service for clients to visualise their project ahead of the build, so it is an excellent time to make alterations. Many of our clients have also found it useful for planning officers and neighbours to show that your proposed new build will blend and enhance the surrounding properties and features.

In the meantime, property developers Ps Contract Management Ltd had been busy progressing with the build, just as we had finalised the contracts they had nearly all of the apertures ready for survey.

One of our in – house surveyors attended the site to conduct a survey, liaising with both the customer and the construction team.

Once the order was placed with the manufacturers, a mutually convenient proposed installation date was agreed with the property developers.

Communication was constant between everyone involved throughout the manufacturing process right up until the installation.

Our clients and their family have been living in their family home for a few years, and we were delighted to return to view the finished new build and take some photos of their beautiful house.

The interior decor is just as striking as the exterior. The inside of the house is awash with natural daylight with large minimalistic profile glazing throughout the hallway.

The ground floor boasts a luxurious open plan kitchen and living space where we installed a two-panel fixed frame with a traffic door at the side and a three-panel Solarlux SL60e aluminium bifold doors to the rear of the property. Which will allow the internal spaces to be opened to the garden, bringing with it the feeling of space and light.

In the living room, we also installed another set of a three-panel aluminium bifold doors which open up onto the decking area both systems have a flush track for a seamless transmission between indoors and outdoors.

The large tilt and turn windows in the master bedroom are finished in white on the inside to maximise the light within the room to create a luminous space.

Solarlux offers a superior range of high-quality aluminium bifold door system with slim sight lines in a range of colours. The system provides high security with a high-tech locking system that is certified by Secured by Design (SBD).

These aluminium bifold doors offer a fantastic U value and stunning aesthetic with a ten-year guarantee.
